When Florida polls open and close for voting on Election Day 2024

MIAMI – Registered Florida voters will head to the polls on Tuesday, Nov. 5, to cast their ballots in the 2024 election to decide several key races and ballot questions and make their choice for the next president.
Those who plan to vote should be aware of what time their local voting precinct will open and close.
Florida has two time zones, Central and Eastern, and the polls will open at 7 a.m. (local time) on Election Day.
If a person opts to vote on Election Day, a person must vote at his or her assigned precinct/polling location.
Voters must bring a current and valid photo ID with a signature. Those include a Florida driver’s license, a Florida identification card issued by the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, a student identification card, a military identification card, and a United States passport.
If photo ID does not include a signature, the voter will be asked to provide another ID with a signature.
Those who do not bring a proper ID can still vote using a provisional ballot. As long as they are eligible and voted in the proper precinct, the provisional ballot will count provided the signature on it matches the signature in their registration record.
The local canvassing board will count the ballot if it was cast in the right precinct and the signature on the provisional ballot certificate matches the signature on the voter registration record.
Vote-by-mail ballots cannot be returned at polling places on Election Eay. Those who wish to vote at a polling place on Election Day should bring their Vote-By-Mail ballot with them to the polling place for it to be canceled before they vote a regular ballot.
Vote-by-mail ballots may dropped off at secure drop boxes at Supervisors of Elections’ main and branch offices until 7 p.m. (local time) on Election Day.
The polls will close at 7 p.m. (local time). Any voters waiting in line at 7 p.m. will have the opportunity to cast a ballot.
Since Florida has two time zones, preliminary election night results will not be released until 8 p.m. Eastern Time, according to the Florida Division of Elections.
Preliminary election night returns, which include the results of all early voting and all vote-by-mail tabulated by the end of the early voting period, are due no later than 7:30 p.m. in the respective county’s time zone and in 45-minute increments (precinct election results) thereafter until all results, except for provisional ballots and certain vote-by-mail ballots with cure affidavits, are completely reported, according to the Florida Division of Elections.
